/// STOP PRESS! VERY SPECIAL GUEST ON THE MIC: CHESHIRE CAT (LEFTFIELD, LOVETONIC SOUNDSYTEM) \
A lot of people see the current crop of white dancehall artists like YT, Gentleman and Alborosie as a fairly recent thing. They’d be wrong. Cheshire Cat is a M.C. and vocalist from Birmingham UK, although if you have never seen his face you could be easly mistaken for thinking he was a true native of Jamaica with his tone of voice and reggae sound.
Growing up in inner city Birmingham in the 1980’s, he took his influence from the music he heard on local pirate radio stations and sound systems, taking the traditional MC apprenticeship in the local Blues and dancehalls. Check out the original dancehall style on this mc clash as he takes the opposition apart, from 1989: http://youtu.be/Mijlb9KN7Gs
He has appeared as the MC and vocalist on many tracks over the years, most memorably on:
Cheshire Cat is well known in the bhangra market and has collaborated with many established artist and producers such as Bally Sagoo, Sukshinder Shinda, Malkit Singh to name a few.
This past year he’s been back on tour with Leftfield, playing some massive festivals and touring the world and now he’s down Dubcentral way…!
Our very special guest for the evening, having flown back from Canada to visit family and friends with Michelle and do an exclusive set for us along the way. He has been a Feedback resident since 2006 and has played alongside Randall, Black Sun Empire, Phace, Fierce and many more. This man is a legend and plays his music in a really unique way, expect the best in jungle and old skool.
DJ Aggers started DJing in 1995, influenced by local Sheffield pirate stations, 90’ Hip Hop and early Drum & Bass. Residencies and regular appearances in hometown Sheffield and across the north of England soon followed as Aggers established himself as a well known name performing at the likes of NY Sushi, Definition, Coalition, Tuesday Club and Detonate amongst others.
Known for his solid, rolling DJ style and across the board selection, 2007 & 2008 saw Aggers hold down a residency at Liquid Funk as well as Drum & Bass Arena and appearances at a host of other events including Breakin Science, Defintion, Rotation, Grace, Velocity and Essence of Chi. Since 2009 Aggers has been a solid resident at one of the north’s finest dark Drum & Bass nights, Feedback. Watch out later on this year 2011, Aggers is working on developing music projects, launching a new record label and bringing together new productions.
TK // BINGO AND V RECORDINGS
We also have one more suprise – TK will be joining us for a back to back set with Aggers! He is one of Sheffields don drum and bass DJ’s and has supported, played, produced, sold and promoted drum and bass for many years. We are glad to have him back!
